Aquarium Advice:
i am doing some preliminary research on new light fixtures. I would really like to purchase an LED fixture, but it is cost prohibitive, so I am comparing T-5 lighting.
I have a 125 gallon, planted freshwater tank and currently running a fixture with four 96-watt compact fluorescent lamps. If I changed to a T-5 fixture, would the wattage equivalent be 1 to 1, thus needing 384 watts of T-5 light, or would the T-5 lights provide more lumens/watt, thus I can run less wattage to provide the same amount of lumens?
The T-5 fixtures are still pretty pricey. I just replaced the lamps in my current fixture, but have a bad ballast (I think) and unfortunately I mistakenly ordered the wrong ballasts, so I am working through that at the moment. I had known lamps and ballasts, I would been considering a T-5 fixture.
Thank you very much. Any input you have will be appreciated.
