Powerhead question on aerator?

I am curious what the point is of the aerator on powerheads? I have 2 in my 55gal but I took the aerators off. Thanks

They are actually designed for fresh water. To help with gas exchange. In a sw enviorment you will have salt creep, and the bubbles don't disapate as fast due to the salt in the water, makes the tank look bad.

And annoys the coral. It's a FW thing.
