Question about using PVC to extend my filters reach?

So I'm going to be building a small five gallon paludarium and the biggest problem I face is the filter not reaching the water. My hope to get around this is to get PVC and attach it to my filters intake and lead it down into the water. Will the suction generated by the filter be enough to induce siphoning or would it not be strong enough to pull the water up?

In the picture in case you can't tell the blue is water, the brownish is land, and the grey is PVC.

song as its air tight it should be fine. I've added on some hob and canister filters with no problem

Just curious, what do you use to attach it? Aquarium silicon, PVC glue, or something else?

All the times I've done it I've just used flexible hose and not pvc. And used a hose clamp where I pushed it on.
