Howdy,

I was looking at getting some new fish for my tank and was looking at the Jack Dempsy because he is such a great looking fish. I was told by the store that they might not be the best choice for me because I have a planted tank and was told they tend to dig up the plants. Is this correct?

Smitty,

All cichlids tend to put up sand and gravel in their mouths to move it around and make pits/caves. So they are known to move sand or gravel and when doing this, dig up plants aswell. I know a lot of people that have planted tanks with cichlids, just not heavliy planted. Just some nice tall plants in each back corner to frame off the tank.

You have any pictures of your planted setup?

I just replaced some plants that didn't fit into what I wanted so I don't have any new pictures.

Bottom line right now... if there is a chance it will dig up the plants then I'm not going to get one. I'm going for a more heavily planted tank plan.

Thanks for the replies!
