Hey I'm sorta new to cichlids, especially having a breeding pair. I noticed one of my large red jewels picking up sand and spitting it in another location. In multiple areas. It's not overly aggressive just yet, the pair chase the others in the tank periodically. Does this mean they are looking for a site to lay eggs or are they just digging around my plants?

Looking for a place to lay eggs if there isnt a flat space where they can lay it.
Its normal for red jewels to do it.

Okay, I wasn't sure, I have a clay pot in there, driftwood and a rock that's fairly flat. So it's kind of crazy they are digging. It seems to be the male that's digging not the female. I'm doing a pwc tomorrow also but ill try not to disturb any of te areas too much. And now the large male is flashing all over the tank. And he's the only one to do so. So ya any advice or suggestions would be great.
