RO/DI Units

Hey, so i want to get an RO/DI unit but how do they connect to a water supply? Can i just like hook a hose running from a tap to it or does it have to be actually like plumbed into the plumbing, if so is there any sort of unit that i can just tip like 20L into it and it will work through it and stop once that water is clean, i dont really know how they work though so if i have the wrong idea let me know.

some are plumbed right into the home's plumbing. Others come with a threaded end just like the female end of a garden hose. You can typically just screw this onto the facet of a utility sink.
