I've built a frag rag out of egg crate and a cheap mag float.

Seems there is some weird stuff living in it.

At night these things stretch out 12-14" in all directions. At first I was thinking they were root systems to algae that I'm having a problem with. But after noticing they disappear after the lights come on I began to look closer.

They are not roots. It's thousands of dark strands that are squirming like worms and moving around. When the lights come on they go back to the scrubber material in the algae scraper.

Any idea on what they are? ImageUploadedByTapatalk1424546290.247606.jpgImageUploadedByTapatalk1424546343.411474.jpg

The "roots" are actually thousands of worms,, dark body's clearish white heads. They squirm and crawl. When the lights are on they retreat back to where one end of the "root" is.
