what type of ground substance do you use in you aquariums

I use gravel as sand would be in my cannister with my cichlids,they tend to dig alot of pits

I use sand. After switching from gravel to sand, all my fish seem to be very much happier and active. My fighting kribensis even paired up after the switch.

I have one gravel/sand mix over dirt, one play sand cap over dirt, two play sand, one quartz sand and two bare bottom tanks. I've had gravel in the past and prefer sand. Easier to clean like a bare bottom and looks nice!

I like sand. It looks more natural and to me is easier to clean.
