Hello all,

Currently, I have 4 german blue rams in a 40 gallon tank. All my parameters are pristine, except for hardness. I've already researched how to make water softer, from peat to chemicals, but I'm afriad of trying something that will ultimately hurt my fish.

pH-6.4
Nitrates, nitrites, and ammonia all in check.
Hard water.

Any advice would be greatly appriciated. Thank you~

What is the hardness (GH and/or KH) that you feel is too high? Based on your pH your KH should be fine.

I'll have to check that tonight. I have a water testing super kit, but it's just for ammonia, pH, nitrates, and nitrites. My little test strips just indicate that the water is 'hard', on a scale of very soft, soft, hard, and very hard. I'll post later tonight.

If you're not dealing with actual numbers, I wouldn't worry about it since you have no idea what scale it's using. What it's calling hard is probably perfectly fine.
