starting a 20 reef

bought a Marineland 20 gallon rimless tank today and thinking of making it into a reef.....I had a bigger reef tank, but had to get rid of it because of space issues......I have a Eheim canister filter for fresh or marine tanks I was thinking of using....I know I would have to keep a good check on it to prevent nitrate spikes......it is rated for up to 158 gallons....I know it would be a little over kill on filtering, but could it work, or should I use something else?

It would work. Just clean it well every week. Reef tanks need good flow anyways, so the return on that will add more flow.
