Hello I was wondering if I could put some guppies in a 40g tank with the following fish in it
2 ornate rainbow fish
3 small swordtails
1 kuhli Loach
1 Bala shark
And a breeding pair of kribensis cichlids

First you need to work on your current stock a bit IMO.
Bala Sharks get too large for a 40b and should be kept in schools.
Kuhli loaches fit in a 40b just fine but should be kept in groups.
Swordtails get quite large as well, so no more than three.
Rainbows are also schoolers. What type do you have?

If you added 3 more rainbows, at least 5 more kuhlis (they're amazing little fish, you might even want more) and take out the shark I think you're good to go :)

I think the kribenis will kill the guppies and the shark needs to go as well as your schools need to be larger.

Kribs don't kill guppies! I also thought that they were peaceful!

Edit: Oops, yeah, when they are breeding they will be aggressive.

As scotty said, bala sharks grow too large, rainbow fish need to school (so at least 6 is good), as do kuhlis.

This would be good:

- 8 rainbowfish
- 6 kuhlis
- pair of kribs
- 10 harlequin rasboras
- 4 otocinclus catfish once the tank is well established.

I love rainbows because there are so many dif kinds( love my 3 turquoise RBs) u don't really need to do big schools I usually do a male and 1 or 2 females and I had 6 did kinds in my 125 and they looked awesome.
