So we bought a red cherry shrimp yesterday to be a friend for our ghost shrimp who unfortunately met his end with the filter before we got home

Anyway, this shrimp scared me because he turns clear periodically. He temporarily made us think that our little ghost shrimp came back (pet sematary anyone?) although we held his little even more ghostly ghost shrimp body in our hands.

Why is our red cherry shrimp turning clear? Is he okay?

Are you cycled? It could be water quality........ May just be a normal fluctuation.

yeah we are. now he is tending towards staying red but when we cleaned the tank today, he turned clear again. so confused about him!

Male RCS have much less color than females. Stress, high lighting, light colored substrates also tend to bring out the paleness in these shrimp. Check your filter...it might still be in there.

Usually its due to fluctuations in water or stress. When you change the water, does his color change while you are taking water out, or while you are putting new water in? What are you feeding him?
