stupid question. =( about colored sand substrate

Hi

I want to put some lightly colored sand substrate in a future tank. I was wondering if there is a safe way to dye pool filter sand....They don't have any colors of sand like what i actually want.

Dye is a really tricky thing in the aquarium. Can you mix diffrent colors of local sands to get the effect you want? Any local clay soils availble to mix in for color?

not sure. i don't know where to look for safe coloring agents for an aquarium.

i want yellow for one of my tanks. i know it sounds terrible, but what i have in my mind is actually very cool.

Might try working with a big chain hardware store, and see if they'll divert some sand from elsewhere in the country to your location.
