Tempered glass

I bought the tetra 40 breeder from petco for $40 and was curious if anyone has drilled the tanks before on the side glass. I know the bottom glass is tempered but what about the sides? I need to drill a return for my skimmer into the side of the tank since I run an external skimmer to make my fuge as big as possible.

Never mind but for future reference the tetra 40B is not tempered except for the bottom glass. All sides are OK to drill.
