Some SW test kits can be use for FW test as well. I got 2 sets of test kit at home, and one set can also be use for FW test. The booklets in your test kit should have more infos.

To be on the safe side, I would use a test kit specifically made for freshwater. Isn't the pH test different for fresh than salt? Maybe Steve S can shine some light on this. The manufacturer would be a good source to speak with about this one.

That's usually a good place to start. It really depends on what your testing and who makes it. Many test kits can cross over between FW & SW but don't assume so without verification. Check the label as well, some will say outright.

Nitrate and nitrite are usually safe in most cases. pH and ammonia are main ones that may not be suitable for both.

Cheers

You can use the quick dip strips for both FW & SW. They'll give you a rough reading. Is that what you're looking for?
