im planning to make a 1000l (260g) tank and i know can use 12mm float/regular glass so could i get away with 6mm toughened glass?

6mm is less than 1/4 inch. That's not even close to strong enough to hold that much water. Even 12mm is less than 1/2 inch and I'm not sure I would use glass that thin on such a large tank.
