I bought 3 neon tetras and 2 balloon mollies and put them in my tank. I bought one balloon molly first then waited for 5 days and added the other four. They have been fine for about 4 days until I came in tonight and found one neon tetra belly up. The other tetras were perfectly healthy and fine, and the balloon mollies didn't seem to even be bothering them. I tested the water and it was ok.

Could the tetra might have had an injury or have been sick to begin with? Or maybe just a shock to its system. I don't think it was due to aggressive fish because it had no bite marks or injuries on it.

RIP :(

When you say the water was ok, what exactly were the readings? Are you using a liquid reagent test kit?

Neon Tetras are notoriously hard to keep because they are sensitive to water conditions.

Everything was 0 the ammonia, the nitrites, and the nitrates were very low.

But the other tetras are just fine and are swimming and eating. They don't even look unhealthy.

I'm guessing it might have just been a sick fish to begin with.
