I got a used biocube 29 for a good deal and I have seen where you need to replace the lights. So far the lights work well but from my reading is they degrade after about a year? The person before had it about that long. Will it start to create issues if I leave them in a little longer? It has been running for about a month. Thoughts?

1 year is pretty much the max for bulbs. Many people change em after 6-9 months. Your best off replacing them and starting with fresh bulbs.

Cost for both is about $50 or is there a light upgrade you can think of that might be the same cost?

Well if your looking at never having to replace bulbs again id look into the LED upgrade however it is quite a few times more expensive than $50. However they easily pay themselves in the long run, so it generally is worth it. The upfront cost can put people off.

I am not sure if this would work for you, but you can take a look at the spec and decide.
Someone used to have 2 of these on their BC29.
