Hi guys would you mind helping me in identifying this fish? It has black, white, maybe thin golden or yellow stripes and his eyes have gold and black stripe..
It's a juvenile sweetlip (grunt family) of the genus Plectorhinchus, possibly P. lessonii. I will check a little more to see if I can come up with a more definite species identification.
Plectorhinchus albovittatus is also similar, but after checking through various books and on the internet I think my initial identification as P. lessonii is probably correct. This species is a good deal smaller than P. albovittatus (maximum size of 60 cm, though usually around 40 cm, versus up to 120 cm in P. albovittatus), but probably still too big for the average home aquarium.
