What watt heater should I get for a 55g? I am doing the sump system if it makes any difference. The temp in my house stays at 65-70 in winter, 74-78 in summer.

I would get two heaters instead of one huge one. In case one goes nuts or fails, the other heater won't be enough to fry your tank. If you have one big one, and it locks on high, you could very well have a problem on your hands

I agree...two 100 watt heaters would be good. Ebo Jagers are highly recommended if you want an inexpensive heater. If you don't mind spending a few extra bucks for a nice setup, I'd go with a 100w Pro Heat and a 150w Pro Heat II. The Pro Heat II has a nice digital temp readout that lets you check tank temp very easily. Both have remote temp sensors and IC controlled power supplies. You could also combine an Ebo with a Pro Heat II to save a little money. JMHO.
