What's the best way to seed a filter?

I bout a fluval C2 HOB filter to replace the one that came with my ten gallon aquarium. I would like to switch them as soon as possible since it is in a bedroom and fairly noisy but don't want to lose all of my BB. I was thinking I could cut up the filter cartridge and put the floss in the carbon slot to seed it, would this work or is there a better way to do it?

Cutting up the old media and adding it to the new filter would be the way to go IMO.

Ok, thanks! I'm going to let it run on my bigger tank while we're gone over the weekend and when we get back I'll add the seeded media.
