Ok, so I'm rescaping my 55 gallons. Just added new filters, decided to add sand. I'm posting this not as a question but as a lesson learned of stupidity, not ignorance. I definitely new better. Folks new to tanks, this is what I did. I bought new sand. Yup, sure did. Then I forgot to clean it! Ugh! After draining my tank, scooping 100lbs of sand into a tub, dragging it thought the house, I only had to fill and cycle my tank 3 times to get the muck out and run clear water. I'm now at 307am washing sand on my deck. Now I'm not dumb, but it's safe to say this blond had a moment of silly. I should have been watching out for sharp edges today! Folks don't be silly. Wash your sand. Don't do what I just did!
