I recently lost 4 of my cichlids and a couple of them started with white tipped fin. Now, one of the remaining eight, ruler of the tank and family fave, has white starting on top of his tail. I would hope is nothing, he's acting normal, bossing fish around, but I haven't seen it before =( the tank was ndwly cycled before the last treatment, but after meds the parameters are all out of whack again. last time I tested 1.0 nitrite .25 ammonia. I've done a 50% since then and will retest after work. I will do a large water change this evening, add salt, what else should I do? what would you do? thank you

Just keep up the water changes. What I do is get water from my source. Add the conditioner, then let it sit in the sun for an hour or two. Keep doing daily wc.

just a note, I've been doing daily w/c since the meds

I haven't added new meds, I'm referring to the last treatment.... I am conflicted because I want to treat him, I've seen how fast this moves, but can't compromise my water quality again. Any other suggestions to treat naturally along with large water changes and salt? I have melafix and some microlift stuff, but am unimpressed with these due to last time...

I don't have a cycled qt tank, but do have cycled goldfish tank and empty 10g... maybe grab filter from there and treat him separately? If so, what's the best?

I also see a cloudy spot on my red empress's top fin, please help with suggestions. I want to beat this crap this time.. =(

pictures...

Idk what that is. Could it be ich...? Do they seem to rub off on things. To be safe crank the temp to 82-85 degrees. Maybe even buy a very small bottle of anti ich and give a quarter dose to be safe.

Hi still wondering about my empress, not as concerned about my blue fish, that seems to be coloring.. Does anybody think this could be disease, the cloudy patch on his dorsal fin? From pics it looks like cloudy patch could be on tail too, but this area has a design to it, doesn't look like disease like dorsal fin could suggest. I have seen him flash once or twice in 3 days since I noticed the cloudiness. Otherwise, he seems normal/healthy. Would a red empress get a cloudy look during color change? The tail seems to be, but I've just battled a nasty bacterial infection in this tank.. lost 4 with 8 remaining.. (noticed no probs with remaining 8 beside this possible issue)

Don't know if anyone reading, but I've taken my empress out of the main tank and am treating with tetra all in one. It's what I have on hand. It didn't really work that great last time, but treating earlier this time. Also added salt. I'm going to change half water daily and add more salt for what I replace and then dose medicine for 5 days as directed. He doesn't have a filter but since I'm replacing water is ok, right? I also have methylene blue. Should I add a bath to my treatment process? How do I do it? (dosage/how much MB? how long does fish stay in? bottle only gives dip directions... Suggestions?

Get a sponge filter. Idk about the bath thing, cause Idk what it is. Keep up water changes. If the water gets cloudy, half the dose. If you put to much in, you could kill your fish. After 5 days of treatment, give him couple days off. No meds or wster changes. So the bacteria can build back up. After two or three days. Continue doses until he is healthy. Then wait a week before putting him back in your main tank.

Thanks for your help, I will look for a sponge filter. I researched online and found tetra all in one to be a crappy med on forums in hobbyist experience.. I've also treated my whole tank previously and lost 4 fish... So, I ordered maracyn 2 online and it will be here Mon. I hope I'm not too late as I have not seen it at lfs. However, I dosed his qt with it today. Do you think he would be ok to do one day without med and pwc, salt.. (how much water? most of it?) then start maracyn 2 on Mon.?? I would love to hear from those who have used it. please help I don't want to lose my red empress too
