My water level lowers and leaves these dirty lines does the filter lower it or what

It's water evaporation. Can be a real pain in the butt. Even up here where I live and it's chilly I still have to deal with it

It's just a natural thing. I top off my tanks once a week along with pwc's.

Same thing would happen with a glass of water on the counter, it's just a natural thing. The temp our houses are generally kept at allow it to happen.
