these are not nessisary for the fish to thrive but the spawning conditions are normaly as follows for most Malawi cichlids..
PH 8.3, KH 18 or about 310ppm
they will be fine in most FW conditions.. HTH

Africans can really be kept at any pH as long as they are acclimated properly. But they really thrive at 7.6+. Mine are reproducing like rabbits in pH 7.6 and Hardness 89.5. I'm trying to get them to STOP breeding, but they just keep at it.
