So i have a male yellow lab cross cichlid and he is in between juvenile and adult hood. His tank mates are all juveniles. I noticed that he has dug a hole under one of his decorations. He goes down, picks up sand, and comes back up and spits it out. What is he doing?

That is what they do "dig"

Okay thats what i thought but thanks!! I just didnt now if he was doing something different.

Their digging will tear up a tank as they get older. With me I have had fake and live plants and I don't in my malawi tank anymore I got tired of cleaning up after the kids ( cichlids) everyday when i got home from work. Be extremely careful when stacking rocks if you have them.
