The difference is pennies a day or less between the two pumps. You just want the right flow and it all certainly has to fit your footprint. Hope you get your new skimmer soon.

Supposedly,.almost identical #'s as far as performance goes.,, but as stated the reef flo has a much smaller foot print, less energy and has 3 speed ( power)settings so when emptying your collection cup etc you can just dial down the power without having to turn off power to the skimmer,...we'll see how it performs in real life soon enough,...I was reading in another forum that they are deigned or were used as a " boiler pump".... Lots of power ,..or so they say,...

Hope that skimmer is running soon cuz mine is gonna have to wait a little while and I plan on skimming vicariously through you :)

This thing better hurry up and get here,...I've bought about a ton of PVC fittings ,hoses ,glue, clamps, plywood etc so when and if it does come I won't have to make a mad dash to the local home depot to try and pickup everything all at once before getting started ,..One thing I've learned in my years is that you can not have too many PVC fittings ,..something always seems to break ,get cut wrong ,change of plans, new project etc etc,..I currently have a five gallon bucket full of fittings I've collected over time BUT the one stupid fitting that you really need never seems to be there,...frustrating!!

Lol. Being a plumber you don't even want to see the amount of fittings (and pipe) I've got laying around here. I could probably rough in a new two story building hehe.

,,, a little while back we had a discussion about using " reef crystals" and the brown residue it might be leaving behind in your mixing tub... I know doug had quite a build up in his barrel among others ..., After my initial barrel of mixing reef crystals i had a slight brownish tinge to my mixing barrel also, BUT now after running a 200 gal box of crystals thru this barrel id say it came out Pretty dang clean.... The white residue you do see in the barrel is from my previously used " coral sea pro" salt mix.... Starting on box#2 today

That's what I found after many years and hundreds of pounds of RC. That's why I found this confusing. There is no doubt something is going on but I don't know what it is.

Read this on a forum post. As many aquarium salts are mined, it wouldn't be surprising that a small amount of clay could get mixed in.

i've recently switched from Red Sea Coral Pro to Reef Crystals. reef crystals does disolve much faster and the price is lower, the thing that strikes me is what appears to be contaminants in the salt! i mix my water in a snow white bin and would wash out with fresh RO every three or four weeks with the coral pro salt but have to wash it EVERY time with reef crystals, it leaves what looks like dirt all in the bin. that spooks me to say the least but as i got a freaking boatload of it at once i'm kinda stuck with it... are you doing anything to clean this up?

and their responce...

Hello,
It is common to find small bits of debris. It is completely harmless and nothing to worry about. Since salt is mined, it is nearly impossible every little particle of debris.

This is weird. I've never used anything but reef crystals for two years and I have very little sediment in my water can. I've never washed it out and I make about 60 to 90 gallons a month.

Since we are back on this subject I guess ill chime back in about my Kent salt. In the last 15 mixes I'd say I did have one that left a very small amount of "dust" on my container and pump. This leads me to believe the reply back that was given and that it is just clay deposits.

"..since salt is mined,". Kind of gives a little credence to the old saying my parents used to say after taking a break from something ... " back to the salt mines". I've never really gave it much thought about where our salt mixes actually came from but it would make for an interesting " how it's made" episode

I saw a neat Dirty Jobs episode where they were mining salt. Dangerous work.

The only thing that still confuses me is that I have used a pickup truck load of RC and have never seen any deposits other than white calcium. Seems like I should have gotten one of these batches with what I think is a clay contaminate.
