New set-up Possibility

I have a 55 gal tank that is pretty long and tall, just your run of the mill 55 gal. Anyway, am wanting to do something different and was thinking through a lot of options. One is maybe trying to set up something that would mimic a river community, any suggestions on this.
As a follow up, any other suggestions of something new to do?

Ooo. If you haven't checked out the monga bay site, do check it out today. Its a great site for putting together biotopes, and covers everything: http://www.mongabay.com/fish/biotope.htm . The Indian/Burmese river Biotope for example, is pretty cool.
