Substrate question

I'd like to use this in my next tank to raise the pH / buffer it and keep it stable at a high pH. Also, I like the look. Has anyone used this before -

I am fairly certain that a few people on here used crushed coral in their Arican cichlid tanks. Don't know about that particular brand, but it should be just fine.
