Yea you probably just cycled it with the fish which can be dangerous...I Think you got lucky... If it were a smaller tank you may have come home to dead fish. Just saying, be careful. Good luck! Btw nice tank! Enjoy!
And don't listen to your LFS all the time.. Always good to get a second opinion! There's plenty of knowledgeable people on this forum.

Tonight checked water and nitrite looks like 0.25



This mean it still needs more cycling?

More cycling! Where are your trates? You should see them start to rise as your trites go down and once that happens its water change time and your cycle is established. It stinks I kno! But well worth the wait I cycled w two clowns and they are still kicking.
