I have done seachem tabs with my DIY tabs as well, I don't think it could hurt too much, just add some nutrients to the gravel

I use aqua Fertz root pellets from AquariumPlants.com. $10.99 for a bottle of 75 pellets. They come Total, Phosphate, and Iron. The first two are added every 30 days and the latter every 45 days.
