So I have my 55 g and want a centerpiece fish I have guppies Platies and mollies ( with a steady flow of fry ) also I have 4 ghost shrimp and a lot of plants and was wondering what fish ( non schooling) would work wih all of them? Preferably bright colored and medium sized

There are a bunch of different south american cichlids that would work in there. Some apistos, rams, keyholes, etc. There are also gouramis that would work such as pearl and opaline. Look up dwarf south American cichlids, they're pretty awesome and would be good in your tank (if you don't mind missing some fry;))

I would go with a pearl gourami just make sure you don't get angelfish or your guppy adults and fry will become food.

get young angelfish if you can.
they are great.

+1 dwarf cichlids are great :)

Don't get an angel

If you don't mind, calfishguy, could you please elaborate for us noobs? Why would an angel fish not be a wise choice here? It would really help if you don't mind explaing. To the uneducated like myself it seems like a nice angel fish would be good here. Is it just because you don't like them? Or is it perhaps because they may pick on, or even kill some of the other fish. Any information you could provide, expanding on you initial sentence, would be awesome. Thanks in advance.

The angel will eat and kill guppy fry and the adult guppies will nip his fins. If you get rid of the guppies the angel will be excellent for your tank. However if you have shrimp an adult angel will eat that too.

To recommend a schooling fish try 6 boesmani rainbows. As a centerpiece for a 55 with fry not much will work. If you don't care for the fry you open up to a new world of possibilities so do you care for the fish or not.

Right sorry forgot about that keep reading about breeding shrimp and haven't kept livebearers in a while. A gourami would work but that is kinda boring IMO

Yeah my dwarves gouramies are Like an addition to my 55 however my kissing gourami is a real clown and is really fun to watch.

if you care about fry keep them in a breeding box.
and seriously, angelfish all the way over guppy.
btw my angelfish havent eat my guppy fry.

It hasnt? Thats a shocker, or you just have juvi angels. Mine ate full grown guppies.

Honestly, you are getting so many fry most likely that you could afford to loose some. However, if you get an angel it would put your adults in jeoprady too

Lol ok I'll look into a kind Of gourmai , can they be without a partner? I only want one
