Unless you purchased your fish from a private breeder with excellent husbandry practices, the chances are very likely your fish have flukes. Its the most common issue with goldfish and symptoms are not apparent until the damage has already been done (or the fish has died). Addressing flukes with praziquantel (5mg/l for a full cycle) is standard protocol for goldfish.
wow, I just bought a pair of goldfish and they are waiting at my lfs while I cycle a 55.. Is this an easy product to find?
In the US, praziquantel is easily accessible. A good lfs (not a chain store) will carry either Hikari's Prazipro (liquid) or prazi in a powdered form (various manufacturers). Online, both Prazipro and prazi are sold all over the place. Prazipro is easier to use as its liquid- powdered prazi does not dissolve in water and needs to be dissolved first in a tiny amount of ethyl alcohol (vodka) in order to be able to add it to a tank. If you need help finding it, please ask!
My 8" Celestial Eye Goldie. Named Golby, 5 years old.
Here are my goldies I've had about a month now. One red and white oranda and I'm not sure about the white one...He was being sold in a tank with other orandas but he doesn't look like one to me. He has a small red spot on his head but it's off center and smaller than the traditional red cap. Any ideas what he may be?
Here are my buddies. Golden boy with a mustache is Pierre, all gold one is Bubbles, and the orange and brown calico is Gillis. The remaining two comets have not had a definite name yet, and any suggestions are welcomed !
These guys came with the house and are now wintering indoors.
