I heard that it's ok to have 1 fish per gallon, is that true?
I understand some fish bio load is larger and some less.

So what's the bio load of say 6 neons compared to a small pleco

One inch of fish per gallon is the rule. But that's outdated because you can't put a ten inch fish in a 10g tank

Ohh boy, hopefully this does not spark a heated debate here;) but yes the inch per gallon rule is pet store jibber jabber, I will give you a great example. I had 4 cardnals( pretty mush same bio load as neon) in a 5 gal bare bottom quarantine tank for 2 weeks, changed water every 4 days, not much poop on the bottom. In that sane qt I now have a 1.5" leopard Pleco. There is more freaking doodoo on the bottom of that tank than you could imagine. So yes a fishes bio load will blow that 1 inch per gallon rule right out of the water. Hope that helped!

But I assumed it was based on small fish, like an inch long.

I've 24 fish in a 90 litre planted tank. All the dips are coming up as the tank is healthy.

I'm just realising I've too many fish

It depends on the fish really, Oscars blow this rule up the most, with a single adult requiring and absolute minimum of 55 gallons, 75 recommended. So the inch per gallon rule is a measure that's just about as good as healthcare.gov

I've 6 neons, 3 rummy nose, 5 small tiger barbs, 2 coolly loach, I big gouram, I catfish, 1 medium red tail shark and one unknown chiclid, pleco, and like a silver smallish fish looks like a silver dollar and 4 medium Mickey Mouse platties

That is quite the conglomeration of fish you have there. The cichlid, clown loaches, tiger barbs, pleco, and pearl gourami absolutely need to go in a larger tank. I would look at rehoming them. The silver dollar fish too if that's what you have.

On that note the rummynose, neon tetras, and platies are great for your tank. I would look at increasing the school sizes of them and going from there. It will end up being a much healthier and safer tank for your fish.

Ha, I was thinking that. Bit I'm gonna keep them until
They get a bit bigger. I don't have anywhere for them to go. I want to make sure I get a good home.

This the silver guy [

Maybe I'll get half dozen guppies and when I clear out the other guys

Not sure about the silver fish, but the gourami you have is a gold gourami, variation of the three spot one. They produce an unusual amount of poop

He's going this week, he's a bit aggressive so I've had him locked up a few times when he's been a really bad fish.

I'm trying to locate a good home for him.

He's a beautiful fish, I really like him but he's a bully. And he eats a lot of food. No wonder he poops a lot.

This guy I got by mistake in the shop. They put it in my bag. Dunno what he is. A few people have given me different opinions.
