Ohh boy, hopefully this does not spark a heated debate here but yes the inch per gallon rule is pet store jibber jabber, I will give you a great example. I had 4 cardnals( pretty mush same bio load as neon) in a 5 gal bare bottom quarantine tank for 2 weeks, changed water every 4 days, not much poop on the bottom. In that sane qt I now have a 1.5" leopard Pleco. There is more freaking doodoo on the bottom of that tank than you could imagine. So yes a fishes bio load will blow that 1 inch per gallon rule right out of the water. Hope that helped!I heard that it's ok to have 1 fish per gallon, is that true? I understand some fish bio load is larger and some less. So what's the bio load of say 6 neons compared to a small pleco
fish grow, some more than others, if you have a 20 gallon tank than 1 bn Pleco and 11-12 neons would prob be the max..But I assumed it was based on small fish, like an inch long.
He's a beautiful fish, I really like him but he's a bully. And he eats a lot of food. No wonder he poops a lot.
