64g Rimless, Planted Build

The rena has that horrible blue plastic intake strainer though, it's awful. And the out take nozzle is so pathetic. It's a good filter but it could be much more aesthetically pleasing.

The 406 should be fine on a 64 gallon, what will your stock be? Depending on stock and with the amount of plants you'll have you could probably get by with just the 306. P

Not sure on the hosing size, I use the fx5 which is 1" ID but I'm like 90% sure the 406 uses 3/4" ID, swapping the ribbed hosing out for normal vinyl hosing is simple. I had done that with my fx5 but the 1" vinyl tubing was not flexible enough for what I needed so I went back to the ribbed. While clear may look sleek to begin with, give it a month and that clear tubing will be brown unless you're tearing it down every water change and cleaning it out. Mine didn't even see sunlight since I keep my curtains closed and I live in Louisville where the sun never shines and it was still brown inside. If you wanted to go crazy with it maybe you could frost the clear tubing as well to blend it in and block light.

Lily pipes should keep tubing out of the tank entirely?? Real question is... what's in the keg?

Is it just me or does there seem to be more alcoholic talk around the forum lately?

I ran a Fluval 406 on my 60g for a long time with great success and it's now the filter on my 93g cube. Great canister filters IMO.

Nigelk is absolutely correct that switching the tubing out for the vinyl tubing is super easy. I would also recommend black tubing as it keeps it a little cleaner with no light. I used 5/8" ID vinyl tubing when I changed the tubing in my tank, it needed to be stretched but it was perfect for my CO2 reactor and Hydor inline heater.

Cheers!!

I would go with a black tubing and find a paint to blend it in with your background. Maybe white or a light metallic grey

Awesome info in regards to the canisters. Thank you all!!
The tubing will connect to lily pipes, so it doesn't have to blend too much. I just want to avoid the industrial look. I'm planning to run everything inline (heater, diffuser, etc) so that the only visible items in the tank will be the lily pipe, the borosilicate intake pipe, and the DC:

The wall behind the tank is white, so I think frosted back glass will be the way to go.
Hoping the two Finnex Planted+ 24/7 fixtures will create a nice, diffused glow behind the tank onto the wall itself. Kind of a halo effect. The tank is going to be away from the TV, in the "formal" dining area, so I don't mind the glow.

Definitely let me know how it works. As far as color, I want black or espresso. I love how the dark substrates make everything pop.

It's more espresso than black. You can see it in my rimless build thread.

I do a combination of the black EcoComplete and black Petco sand in all of my planted tanks. I think that it gives a nice combination of functionality and aesthetics.

That's what I have in my 36g right now. The EcoComplete tends to work its way to the top as I plant and replant. But it does look good.
For this tank, I was thinking just a homogenous substrate for aesthetics. I like the finer grain size of the ADA powder varieties, but do want to weigh the options.

How is your GLA regulator going? I've started having issues with my Aquatek not pumping out CO2 steadily.

As in "pulsing"? I've observed my AquaTek suddenly speed up and then back to the rate I set it. But I'm running a lower rate now (1 bps) and I don't see it happening. I did increase the working pressure from 20 psi to almost 40 psi so that may have something to do with it.
