Freshwater stocking ideas

The friendliest place on the web for anyone with an interest in aquariums or fish keeping!
If you have answers, please help by responding to the unanswered posts.
For tetras;
ember, kerri, neons( black are larger then any of these I have mentioned),glo lites(++).
The point behind dwarf cories(several different species) is that you can get a LARGE school in which they will be much happier, healthier and entertaining for their owner.
Really can't speak to loaches appropriate for you that I have kept.
I feed NLS(New Life Spectrum) sinking pellets in 2 sizes for my bottom guys to get along with my flake/frozen stuff.NLS daily.

Okay I'll end up grabbing some of those pellets. And yeah I considered danios. I prefer tetras, but if the danios will do better in the tank, then I am more than content with getting them instead!

TIGERS???
Really,in a 29?
Need double digit stocking of them alone.
Some can grow to 4 inches?

I didn't think they would work but I read somewhere else they did so I though I would ask. Just trying to see all the options.

Tigers are best in a species only tank and then in the largest number and tank possible.
They are beautiful, but only the lucky and best stockers have long term success with them.
I have seen many set ups with other fish but none long term.

Okay good to rule the barbs out then. I think I'm leaning towards zebra danios. So it would be
2 Bolivian rams
5 kuhli loaches (or possibly another species)
5 cories
6 zebra danios

What kind of filter?
And are we 20Long or 29?
This is for a 20 l with 1 aq20(I would use 2 or go with at least an aq50 even on a 20)

I added more cories:cool: and feel aq is always safe so if you filter well and provide necessary weekly maint, then all looks good!(y)

Well I'm going to set up a 29 gallon with sand and live plants. The current options I'm considering are:
-2 apistogramma OR 2 Bolivian rams
-6 tetra (possibly cardinal or black phantom)
-Some combination of cories and/or loaches

Suggestions or opinions?...What kind of loach would do well in this community?

Oops. I should have read your first post. Yeah, Kuhlis are excellent fish. They love hiding under driftwood. They'd do great in a 29 gallon. I have 6 in my 30 gallon planted tank.

29 gallon. I'm not sure yet as to which filter I'll get. Suggestions?

No problem!! I have had a multitude of posts. Starting to confuse myself! And yeah, I was thinking about getting a nice piece of driftwood or two and some fairly easy plants.

And let's just say I end up not getting rams (none of the fish stores near me seem to sell them), how would gourami do in that tank with the loaches, cories, and some sort of schooling fish?

If that would happen to happen, I wouldn't go for Dwarf Gourami. I'd suggest the alternative to be the Honey Gourami as they are very peaceful and colorful. My suggestions for some type of shoaling fish would be that of Cardinal Tetras, Harlequin Rasboras, Neon Tetras, etc.

Yeah I was considering honey or pearls as a back up to Bolivians! Awesome thank you everyone for the help!!

I would do a school of cherry barbs, they are small, beautiful, and are non- fin nippers. Plus they look great in small tanks.

Great I think I'll do the cherry barbs...Does anyone have any plant suggestions???

Hornwort
Anarchis
Java Fern
Anubias
Java moss
Water sprite
Vallisneria
Backpack Caroliniana
Amazon sword

All easy plants with a decent light and some fertilization. Plus root tabs for the Amazon sword.

Awesome I'll definitely get some of those and a nice big piece of driftwood. I was planning on some Java fern for sure

Java Fern is just a purely awesome plant. It can be grown in any type of planted tank basically without any issue. Here's a driftwood and Java Fern centerpiece in my high-tech tank.

See, I think that's an awesome natural look. I'd love to have my tank like that. What are those smaller grass-like plants in front?
