Paul's 40 Gallon Reef

The friendliest place on the web for anyone with an interest in aquariums or fish keeping!
If you have answers, please help by responding to the unanswered posts.
The source would be my question. You have kept fish well before and maybe these just aren't well when you get them. Are all of these that have been dying from the same source?

Yes. The melenurus wrasse is from the same source as well unless it was ordered from a different vendor, but it's unlikely.

That's a pretty one, can't wait to see it in your tank! I'm loving wrasses these days, they are so colorful, mostly peaceful and still active.

So far the new social fairy appears to be doing well. He did come from the same place that my last losses did. The others looked good before they died as well. I am getting a little cyano on the very far sides of my tank. Possibly from the last couple fish dying? Not sure. I'm beefing up on water changes though. I also turned my lights peek hours down from 70% to 60%. Noticed my prized gold torch has started to slightly white out a tad and my nice big red sunburst acan has been expelling some zooxanthellae. This is all not cool. Hopefully I can get to the bottom of this. Something I read on another forum is all the pollen and gunk in the air this time of year can make a tank look like doo doo. It actually makes sense too, especially in TN where the pollen is ridiculous. I think I'm having a different issue as well though.

Hopefully this wrasse will stay healthy!! I hadn't thought about pollen, we have quite a bit in NC too. We don't do a lot of open windows so hopefully not too much is getting in the tank.

I hope so too. He's pretty cool when he raises all his fins. I see why they call it a long fin fairy wrasse. We don't do alot of window opening either (88° today), but im still manages to get in I'm sure. The funny thing about it all is my SPS's seem to be improving.

Funny how corals work...so weird lol. Love the new addition man, wrasses are the best

Thanks man. Corals are so very weird. Wrasses are the greatest fish! Been looking into a pintail. Got plans to wrasse it out! (For the exception of my orchid dottyback)

Pintails are so cool but definitely not cheap!! Wrasses are just the best SW fish

This is true. My buddy has been sitting on a small female for $90 for a while. I'm trying to trade in my old LED fixture towards it. As long as its not dominated by my other wrasses it should turn male. How long will it take, I dunno. We shall see if I can pull off the trade.

Well traded in my old light and got a down payment on the pintail! It's being held for me to hopefully pick it up on Friday. This beauty will be going into a social acclimation box seeing as I already have 2 wrasses in the tank. I did pick up a little ORA acro frag today as well. I'll share that here soon...

None of these are my photos but the first is what it looks like now and last is an adult male which I hope for it to become.

Hard to get a good shot of the new ORA acro, and I'm still not sure which one it is. I was thinking it was the pearlberry when I got it, but there are a few that look similar.

Thanks! They are usually alot more pricey than what im getting mine for. I'm still a little hesitant to add a fish that expensive to my tank after the losses, but its been in his tank (at LFS) for a couple weeks now and looks healthy. Nothing is set in stone though, I may go with something else, but I doubt it. They are gorgeous!
