Over the last 10 years I've had a series of minimally to moderately successful 10-gallon tanks, all of which I ultimately give up on because maintaining the water quality becomes such a pain in the neck.
No matter how many partial water changes I do, no matter how often I test and no matter...
what else?
2 glofish, 3 fire tetras in a 10 gallon tank established about one year. pH is about 7.2, steady.
any suggestions? I like barbs, but my tank is just too small, I think.
Dwarf gourami (one?). Otos?
hey. have had my ten-gallon planted up for six weeks. my levels are fine: 0, 0 and 5-10. when should i change my filter cartridge? should i? i'm concerned i'll hurt the biological filter if i just throw a clean one in.
I started cycling my 10 gallon with a product called Turbo Start 21 days ago. It is refrigerated, like Bio-Spira, and claims to cycle your tank in five days with live bacteria. It sells for six bucks for a six ounce bottle that treats 40 gallons. It did not cycle my tank in five days. However, I...
Ammonia - 0 ppm
Nitrite - 0 ppm
Nitrate - 5-10 ppm
Never saw an ammonia spike. Saw a brief nitrite spike, then it leveled out pretty quickly. Knock on wood, no surprises coming.
Didn't do water change for the first time in a week today? What should I do next?
My 10 gallon planted (see sig) is in it's 8th day:
I just tested the water using a liquid reagent for the 8th time. The readings were as follows:
pH: 7.8
Ammonia: 0-.25 ppm (can't tell. closer to zero)
Nitrite: 0 ppm
Nitrate: 0-5 ppm
Those readings are identical to Day 1. No change between...
The melon sword and amazon sword in my 10 gallon are showing browning around the edges of some, not all, leaves. Others have curled and are a deep brown. One or two of these leaves were like this when i bought the plants. My nitrate level is between 0-5, which concerns me because the plants...
Any suggestions on how to gradually, safely, lower the temperature on my tank. It's pretty hot in my apartment, and the water is at about 88 F. The heater isn't on. I know enough not to just dump cold water in there. But I'm not sure what to do. I appreciate any help.
Thanks for the heads-up about the Amazon. I'll keep on an eye on its growth. I'm concerned about my nitrate levels. Currently, it's at 0 ppm. Ammonia is 0, as is Nitrite. Doesn't seem possible with five fish in the tank - even if they are small.
I'll keep an eye on algae, too. I plan at getting...
10 gallons, FW
15 watts plus sunlight
1 amazon sword
1 dwarf pygmy sword
1 melon sword
what can i expect next?
oh...4 bloodfin tetras and 1 red honey gourami
thanks for all of the suggestions. i haven't seena an ammonia spike yet, which is odd -- knock on wood -- but we'll see what happens.
down the line i'll probably get an oto or two.
10 gallon community tank.
15 watts.
What kind of plants, how many, and how do you keep them healthy.
Right now, the tank has 4 bloodfin tetras and 1 red honey gourami.
Thanks for your help.
I have a new 10 gallon freshwater community tank stocked as follows:
4 bloodfin tetras (1-2")
1 red honey gourami (1.5")
how often should i feed them? The cannister of food says three times a day. That seems like a lot.
I'd appreciate any help. I'm paranoid about over-feeding.
My levels are...
