    Zits on a Puffer

Hello, I have a White Spotted Puffer who has recently (within the past week) developed what look like small, round growths on its body. There are three of them and I swear they look like pimples (hence "zits"). I have never seen this before and I'm completely baffled as to what this could be...

    Ick & ???

I've begun raising the temperature. It's at 77.5 degrees now. I've added salt. The tanks has 4 Clown Loaches, 1 Plecostomus, 1 Angelfish, 4 Neon Tetras, 4 Danios, and 6 Panda Cories and 1 Flying Fox. One more tidbit, it's a moderate to heavily planted tank. I just did a 30% water change...

    Ick & ???

Hello, I need your help. In my 38 gallon freshwater tank, I have some sick Clown Loaches. At first, I thought it was Ick, but now I'm not so sure. First of all, all of the Clown Loaches are covered in white spots (hence my Ick diagnosis), but they are the ONLY ones that are covered in spots...

So carbon is a no no in a planted tank right?

RE: Fifty Percent Water Changes Ok, I'm impressed, fifty percent water changes every week! On a 60 gallon tank, I change out ten gallons every week. I use only RO water, which leads me to wonder why 50% is such a good thing. I'd be spending a lot of time getting my trace mineral level back...

    Magnum 350

Greetings Fellow Aquarists! I have a question regarding my Magnum 350. While doing routine maintenance, I noticed that outflow from the Magnum has dropped precipitously since it was new. I cleaned everything out, which is to day, I cleaned off the blue pre-filter, rinsed out the chamber, and...

Finding Nemo, Well Sort Of . . .

Infection(s) . . . I neglected to mention that the Yellow Tang has come down with some kind of infection. He has what looks to be red splotches on various parts of his anatomy. I'm treating with Myacin. He had this infection several weeks ago and I thought it was gone, but apparently not...

Finding Nemo, Well Sort Of . . .

Greetings! I am in the midst of being seriously vexed! How on earth does a fish just disappear from a tank? I have a 75 gallon marine aquarium with 1 White Spotted Puffer, 4 Blue-Green Reef Chromis, 1 Flame Red Hawkfish, 1 Yellow Tang, 1 Gramma Basslet, and 1 Percula Clown. Now between...

    Dust, What's Up With That

Diamtom Powder Everywhere Ok, so I follow the directions. I fill my Magnum canister with the powder and dissolve it in the water. I have my bucket in the tank and ready to go. I turn the canister filter on and out comes the white cloud. It's as though a fog has settled in. Although as I...

    Dust, What's Up With That

More Diatom Questions When you say add the diatom powder, which I bought this evening, do you mean to have it sucked up through the intake dry? Is the micron filter dry too? Although, I would imagine it would have to be at least damp in order for the powder to adhere to anything.

    Dust, What's Up With That

Diatom Powder? A charge of diatom powder? Please elaborate. Also, when you say floss, what are you referring to? I can't imagine you're thinking of someting akin to dental floss?

    Dust, What's Up With That

Greetings Fellow Aquarists, My plant tank is doing quite well. However, I have an equipment question. I've got a Magnum 350 that I've been using to polish the water. It certainly works well, but the micron filter gets full quite quickly and my water flow drops to a trickle. Now most of the...

    Yellow Tang Rash

Hello, I have a Yellow Tang that seems to be acting odd and he has some dicoloration near his tail. He seems hyper sensitive to light lately. When the light is on he swims frantically back and forth. His behavior calms down when the light is turned off. Today I noticed that he has what...

    KH Levels

Hello, As some of you know, I'm using a Carbo-Plus system and I've run into a problem with a low KH level. Can anyone tell me how to boost it? Am I going to need some kind of buffer or will water changes be required? Thanks.

    Carbo-Plus Question

Greetings Fellow Aquarists, I recently acquiried a Carbo-Plus system for me 58 gallon planted tank. I am wondering if anyone has any experience with this system, whether it be good, bad, or otherwise. I'm wondering if it's as good as buying a regulator and a CO2 cylinder and a diffuser. Thanks.

    CO2 Level

Greetings, I have a 58 gallon planted tank and this morning I was measuring my CO2 level. It registered at 6 ppm of disolved CO2. I'm not sure if this is low, high, medium, etc.. Can anyone help? Thanks.

Is CO2 needed for a planted tank?

CO2 Is Your Friend CO2 is one of those wonderful chemical compounds that are really beneficial for aquatic plants. A fairly inexpensive way to go is to purchase the Hagen CO2 system. It's about $25 US and you really can't go wrong. You can go the DIY route as well. Regardless, CO2 is as...

    Dirty Plants

Greetings! I have a 58 gallon planted tank that includes some Cabomba and Anacharis. I have noticed over the past several weeks that these plants seem particularly adept at capturing what seems like somewhat fine debris. I have Red Sea's Flora Life as a substrate so I don't know if that is...

    first fish

Whoa If your tank has not cycled, then don't get any fish. I think it's much more humane to cycle a tank without using fish. However, if you want to look at something other than water in a tank, then get a Damsel of some kind. They are heartier than either the Chromis or the Clown. JMHO.
