    Cichlids without eyes

Again not a cichlid but in my small tank I have the blind cavefish. Pretty cool to watch them especially feeding time because they go crazy

    Bichir with cichlids

55 gallon with maybe 13 cichlids, 5 danios and a bristlenose

    Bichir with cichlids

So I tried putting the bichir in the big tank and I think he's too small. I added him with two other cichlids and rearranged half of the tank at the same time. I saw him this afternoon in the corner with a missing fin and some damage to the back. I'm going to let him grow till about 6+ inches...

    Give my fish a workout?

They are crazy your right. Especially at feeding time. Had one jump out of the tank and land in the jar of food.

    Give my fish a workout?

All my fish love mine I have a big one on one side and a small nano on the other they almost seem to be doing something with the current sometimes my danio hang out behind it. Maybe they think they are safer behind it who knows.

    Bichir with cichlids

I'm going to give it a shot I was more worried about the Johanni bring aggressive but with the other cichlids he may never notice the bichir

    post your cichlid setup here!

I would just paint the back glass make it simple plus with the white rock and black gravel it will be perfect

    Bichir with cichlids

I always forget the basic but most important parts. It's a 55 with caves all on the left side and lots if swimming room on the right. The bichir is a Senegal.

    Bichir with cichlids

So after looking through all the threads about this i came to the conclusion there shouldn't be any problems putting him In the tank. I just have a territorial Johanni and with some if the cichlids being about 3-4 inches big will he be okay or should I wait till he's bigger. He is around 3...

    Auratus holding?

Okay. Ya I may have just jumped to conclusions. I just checked it and the belly is getting smaller. I fed them today and will fast them again to work it's way back to normal

    Auratus holding?

So my auratus has a big belly at first I thought it was bloat from over feeding so I didn't feed for a couple days and that's the only fish that has it. It doesn't seem to be acting any different than usual and all water parameters are good. The only other auratus I have is a blue juvenile along...

    Crab in african tank?

I had this guy in my tank. He was in there first and killed most of the tropical fish so I switched to cichlids and they left each other alone. He died after climbing out if the tank to go for a walk.

    I'm a newbie.

What do you have right now? Obviously you need the basics like a filter, heater, lights, some kind of top, substrate and decor. Your obviously looking into cichlids but do you know what type? As in, South American or African.? I am still a rookie when it comes to who can be paired with who and...

    Chichlid at night

Got this quick shot of one of my cichlids under the moon light. This was the only shot I could get so don't mind it being a little cut off. And ignore mount wannahaukalugees bubbles in the back.

    55 Gallon Convict Tank

Great tank. I like the background.

So here is the first initial setup

I definitely agree with more caves. I have about 1/3 of my tank filled with slate caves and they still chase each other out of them.

    Plywood stand.

Ya they plywood will never be exposed to water long enough to do any kind of damage. If I was really worried I would have done a layer of poly on top but like said I only get drops on it and never on the edges.

    Plywood stand.

I thought that too than I asked around and like I said checked out the ones they sell at the stores and never saw one with a piece of wood thicker than an inch. My cousins creaked at first but we realized we never leveled it so re did that.

    Plywood stand.

So I've been searching around and no one really builds their stand out of plywood. Well I started looking at them in the lfs and found out they aren't built from much. Well I upgraded tanked the same time as my cousin and we both used 3/4 ply. He has a 80gal and I have a 55. Here are some...

    Crayfish and Cichlids

I had one. He was just as aggressive as the cichlids. I got him first than added the cichlids. They never bothered him and he only bothered them if they swam near him to much than he'd just try and grab them. I had four cichlids and he died because he climbed out of the rank and dried up. I had...

    post your cichlid setup here!

Ignore the clearness in the water. It's the fine bubbles from the volcano. But here's the best shot I got of the jalo.

    post your cichlid setup here!

Just picked up a jalo reef today after seeing you post yours. He's still a juvenile but had some bold colors so hoping he will be male.
