But the tank seems sooooooo boring with just 1 crayfish.
What can i put with it???

any ideas?
i don't know much about them...i want to put something with my crayfish.
i have a 5 gallon tank
i want to get a betta
what can i put with the betta??
anything?
any suggestions?
i was thinking either:
snails
white clouds
danios
cories.
but i don't know how many i can put in there...
can someone please tell me the stocking limit.
also.
do i need a heater in a 5...
it is widely accepted and established that you should NOT clean the filter, vacuum the gravel during cycling.
and ONLY change the water.
fair enough...
BUT...
won't the fish poo constantly build up in the filter and gravel (if you don't clean it)??????
and hence, the ammonia will continue...
i was wondering.
if you take filter media (filter floss, gravel, sponge etc..) from a healthy established tank for CYCLING purposes....
does the WATER PARAMETERS need to be the same between 'MY tank' and the tank the filter media ORIGINALLY came from???
e.g.
lets say my tank has
pH 7.6
temp...
i have 2 questions regarding pH & cycling.
1) can a tank cycle at a LOW pH
lets say 6.0
2) does the pH have to be STABLE?
if so, how do i 'permanently' buffer the pH??
the reason i ask is because.
the pH from my tap water is 7.6
but in 1day it falls to 6.0
now i don't know what my GH or KH...
can someone please clarify the waterfall/oxygen/splash concept.
i have 2 aquaclear mini's on my 10 gallon.
the water level is just below the spill-way, but there is NO splash.
ONLY ripples
&
ONLY crack where the waterfall enters the water.
can someone please confirm if there is sufficient...
i was wondering..
my tank has been up for a week...and it hasn't gone cloudy yet.
is this bad?? do ALL aquariums HAVE TO have a bacteria bloom???
my ammonia is 2.0ppm.
nitrite 0
nitrate 0
also.
i have 2 aquaclear 'mini's on my 10 gallon
so there is lots of filtration and lots of bubbles and...
your thoughts?
you can find some RARE species of fish that are worth ALOT !!
especially the MARINE fish.
and i guess you can bring them to a 'fish show' (if you have show-quality) to get it judged and win prizes.
my aqua-clear "mini" was creating a 'cyclone' and pushing my fish around the water, and pushing the food around...
so i reduced the siphon intake/input to create less current in the water.
correct me if i'm wrong..
but does the patented "refiltration grid" system on the aqua-clear mean that...
when cleaning the filter...you have to take out the sponge and rinse it etc.
during this time, the filter is turned off (no oxygen) and is out of water...
can the bacteria survive this period of 5-10minutes??
i was wondering...
if you are cycling with fish..
do u still need to feed the fish???
my question is: does a fish still produce ammonia if they do NOT eat??
if you "starve" the fish..will they produce ammonia???
the reason i ask is because:
i was thinking of feeding my fish every 3 days...
i was wondering, can i use a dead fish to cycle a tank?
i want to do a fishless cycling..
but instead of using ammonia from the grocery store...
can i just use a dead fish???
i read that tooo much ammonia can stall the cycling process..is this true??
2days ago
my ammonia was 4.0ppm
nitrite 0 ppm
nitrate 0 ppm
today
my ammonia is ABOVE 8.0ppm (OFF THE SCALE!!!!)
nitrite 1ppm
nitrate 0ppm
i'm into week 3!!
does this sound right??
should i do a water change?
i...
can i put more fish with a bigger filter??????????
lets say i use a 50 gallon filter on a 10 gallon tank....
the flow rate on the 50 gallon filter is 200 gallons per hour...
can i keep MORE FISH????
also.
will there be tooooo much current and agitation in the tank?
or will this be o.k??
i haven't done water changes yet.
I'm into week 3.
will water changes delay/interrupt cycling and make cycling go longer?
also
when doing water changes during cycling.
How much water do u change? do u change enough water that the ammonia and nitrite reading = 0 (ALL THE TIME)????
also.
do...
currently.....my water is cloudy.
White water.
I am into week 3 of my cycle.
ammonia - 8+
nitrite - 1
nitrate - haven't checked.
but i just want to know when will the cloudiness disappear?>>
i just started cycling..
and I want to speed up the process.
I don't have access to seeding material (filter floss, gravel etc..)
so I have to patiently wait for it to cycle.
I've tried using bacteria products including
Stress Zyme - aquarium pharmaceuticals
Cycle - Hagen
Stability -...
