    Shrimp care

I had no idea Petco carried Rili shrimp... Those are high-dollar shrimp, what did they cost?

    Adding new substrate

What substrate do you currently have? I would do the following: 1. Remove everything from the tank, including the fish. Keep fish in a bucket or something full of water from your tank. 2. Remove all of the old substrate. As long as you don't remove your filter media, you'll still have...

    Tanked drives me crazy!!!

I've hated this show ever since it was released. The tanks LOOK pretty, but they aren't good environments for fish. Especially with saltwater tanks, you want a full ecosystem. A majority of the stuff they use on the show is plastic coral reefs instead of doing the real deal. I once saw an...

Stocking Ideas for 17 Gallon Aqua Scape

I have a 17 gallon Mr. Aqua tank with an HC carpet and driftwood. I haven't had too much luck with OEBT shrimp or CRS shrimp, so I want to try some schooling nano fish. I was thinking a school of about 10 neon tetras, but I'm open to any ideas... What'cha got?

    Mixing OEBT and CRS Shrimp

I currently have a 17 gallon aquascape with about 8 Orange Eye Blue Tiger shrimp. The substrate is black and the shrimp blend in, so it doesn't make for a pretty tank. I have been trying to breed the shrimp since October with no luck. Conditions are perfect for them and I've seen them berried a...

    Angelfish Eggs Turning Black

I will go check those things out now. This is their first spawn, so I wasn't counting on many of them actually hatching. How long does it normally take your eggs to hatch? They've been in my hatching tank for 2 days now.

Is this healthy for my fish?

An RO/DI unit stands for reverse osmosis deionization unit. You can hook it up to a sink, garden hose, or some other water port and it will purify your water so you can use it in your aquarium. They're a little pricey ($100-200 depending on the quality and number of chambers), but well worth...

    Is this safe?

If you want colored sand, I'd go with the stuff from Petco. It says non-toxic, but I believe they mean non-toxic to humans when they print that on the Crayola product. There are many things that are harmless to humans that can harm fish.

Is this healthy for my fish?

Most tap water has some kind of chemicals added to it so it doesn't get nasty in transit from the water plant to your house. Even well water has unwanted contaminants, which is why I just stopped worrying about it and bought an RO/DI unit. Saves me a lot of worry and trouble.

    Suggestions on what to add

Do you not have a local fish store around? My LFS orders me any fish I want if they aren't in stock already and it's much cheaper because they buy 50-100 fish at a time, so they save on shipping. Buying small amounts of fish on eBay and Aqua Bid gets very pricey.

    Is this safe?

I'm not really sure if it's safe. Is this an actual product or do you color the sand yourself? I don't even recommend using colored gravel that's sold at Pet Smart, so I'm going to say no. It may be okay, but I try to use 100% natural substrate like Eco-Complete and 100% natural decorations...

    Angelfish Eggs Turning Black

My angelfish spawned two days ago on a breeding slate and I have since moved the slate with the eggs on it to a 2 gallon tank I have. I took some rigid airline tubing and put it next to the eggs to aerate the tank. I also put some Methylene Blue in the water to prevent from fungus. About 12...

    Why So Much Algea?

I have a 36 gallon tank with pressurized CO2 (1-2 Bps). It's full of plants with Eco-Complete substrate. The light is the 36 inch AquaticLife T5. I also dose liquid Flourish (N, P, K, and comprehensive). I have algae growing on the plant leaves and on the glass like crazy. I thought the CO2...

Can I Grow HC Carpet With This?

Just Flourish N, P, and K and then the comprehensive Flourish. And then pressurized CO2.

Can I Grow HC Carpet With This?

It's Eco-Complete substrate. The bulbs are GE bulbs I got at Lowes and they are in an Aqueon incandescent strip light fixture. Aqueon Incandescent Strip Lights at PETCO Do you think I would be better off getting a T5 fixture?

Can I Grow HC Carpet With This?

I want to grow an HC carpet in my 10 gallon tank. I have pressurized CO2 and a CFL light fixture. There are two 14w 5000k CFL bulbs over the tank. I can always upgrade to 20w CFLs or get 6000k ones, but I was wondering if my current setup would be adequate.
