So I just got my hydrokabel heater in the mail and i didn't read carefully enough that it doesn't come with the electronic thermostat. How important is that? Can I run it without that or SHOULD I get it before I start my setup?

Would it matter if I used an under gravel filter since I'm going to do live plants with a substrate. Like will it take to much of the nutrients out of the gravel and substrate?
