I just put sand in my tank, it wasn't cloudy but I used kiln dried silica sand, the stuff that goes between bricks on a drive, looks great!

Whilst at my lfs, the guy recommended sand for my tank, my dad, being cheap, asked if silica sand would be okay from a buliders merchants. The guy googled it and said it might work, i just dont want to do anything that would kill my fish, would it be safe?

Yes, i have used it many times before and never a problem, looks like its the sponge. My angel fish have just died and some of the others, is there any way to rectify the problem before the tank is empty?

Just based on torn fins and i treated the whole tank A new sponge, saying that makes me wonder then, it was just a normal sponge, and i gave it a quick rinse in old tank water. Whats the chances it'll all clear up then?

Okay, its about 22 gallons, ph is 7.4, ammonia, nitrates and nitrites are 0. I have two angel fish, 4 penguin tetras, 7 black phantom tetras, 4 neon tetras, 3 guppies and 2 ottos. The angel fish are small though and i have checked to see if it is overstocked, but i havent added fish for 3 or 4...

I have noticed it is only on one side of him, like a bit of the skin that covers the gill is missing. A betta a used to have was the same, is it anything for cause to concern?

I have two angel fish, one male one female, i know as the guy in the lfs says they have bred before. But i forgot to ask him which is which, so just out of curiosity how do you tell?

I have two angel fish, and one has sort of a red line at his gills, whereas the other doesn't, i know they are different sexes, so is that the reason or is there something wrong

Yeah they are fully mature, english bred and have mated before, i am unsure weather this lowers or highers the chance of them doing it again. Theo other angel fish were about 30 quid a pop, anyway thanks for the reference to the thread and i love mine too

Firstly, yes, you must cycle the new tank, this is so that the filter and all the other things are sorted in the tank, it is to get a healthy mini eco-system going, if you just filled it with water for the first time and put the fish in, i dont think it would be good for the fish, maybe very bad...
