They arrived on Fri. Didn't feed anything in the tank until Sat and then again this evening. At least this evening, they seemed interested but never ascended up to the surface to poke around for food.
Bloodworms? Ok, just think that they are about the same size as the fish ;)
Just received a nice little school of pygmy rasboras and ... they don't seem to be eating. I thought that they would eat dried flakes like the rest of the tank (danios & tetras) but they don't seem to leave the bottom of the tank during feeding and nothing makes it that far down. They also...
Thanks for the traces tip - feeling kinda silly after all the reading that I have done. Anyway, just now finished ordering an lb from GW and am looking forward to some help from that :)
The ludwigia repens (the broadleaf, right?) is an attractive plants but I was worried that I didn't have...
Almost forgot the followup story. As I was leaving before my fiance for the holidays, I left him instructions for covering up the tank when he left in order to keep the 5 day window. However, I forgot to tell him how to turn off the co2. As a result, he wrapped it up very nicely - and then...
I shut it all down and went over the gaskets & seals with a cotton swab. There was some 'stuff' as the swab did not pull away white but I wouldn't think that it would be a problem. Double checked that the impeller & components looked & felt seated securely and then turned it back on to see if...
czcz - this sounds like good advice, thank you. Do you have any thoughts on the viability of the narrow chain leaf sword plants? Am I doomed with only 2wpg so that I should maybe look to trade them away?
When I walked into the house this morning, I noticed that the water level in the tank was down a couple of inches. uh-oh. Immediately dropped groceries and tried to find the leak .... turns out there is water dripping down the power line out of the back of my Rena canister filter. I had half...
This was my original layout plan - but I think that there are some underlying issues with my design which are restricting further growth. After 3 months, I expected some fill out and some recurring algae issues continue to nag. I would really appreciate any observations or thoughts you might...
talloulou - I ended up renting mine from National Welders. They are a national chain of welding supply stores and while they looked at me funny when I told them why I wanted it. It was simple & painless afterwards :)
I found a couple of little guys similar to at the LFS. However, when I returned to get some more - they only had fish that looked like these .
From what I remember, these fish were labelled the same as I remembered my first batch but they aren't nearly as pretty. Are they in fact the same...
I would like to get rid of some nagging BGA in my tank and hope that a couple of days in the 'dark' will eliminate it. I have pressurized CO2 running into the tank and wanted to know if I should leave it on the timer to continue during the 'day' or if I should shut it down for those few days. I...
ooooooooooooooooooooh. One of those! (smacking forehead sound)
I've been reading up on DIY reactors, for inline install, and wondered about bio-balls when ran across this thread.
Thanks for the clarification!
I recently added an XP3 to my tank (48G bowfront) and it really threw up quite a current. Rather than use the valve to reduce the flow, I have directed the jets toward the back of the tank thinking that I didn't want to blow any plants over/away. However, after a week and a half of this - I...
I was worried about not having enough water movement in the tank and that led me to the XP3. It didn't occur to me that it might be too much but am glad to hear the flow is adjustable (whew). There is some slime algae getting comfortable in a back corner and I think the lack of flow back there...
I have and am rather attached to a large piece of malaysian driftwood in my 48g which, besides softening the water, lends a bit of color to the water. There is a slight yellow tint. I have just made the plunge and ordered an XP3 canister filter and wonder if it could help clear up the water...
Mark5047 - What filter media are you using? I have an XP3 on the way and am wondering what to do about filter media. Guess I should have thought about this earlier so I could just place a single order but 'hindsight'. ;)
I did remove the wheels as I read on here that they exascerbate the CO2 outgassing. Do you think it's still an issue to use the hob - the surface disturbance is pretty minor without the wheels (no splashing or anything like that) as the water level is nearly constant from the filter to the main...
I'm using a penguin bio-wheel filter which hanges on the back of the tank. I was afraid to switch to a canister filter as I don't want to have to put a hole in the side of the tank.
Maybe it's time for media change - thanks as I hadn't thought of that. A little 'doh' moment for me right...
