    Nitrates before Nitrites...?

The reason your nitrates read high first was because the nitrites were already converted. Then when your converted nitrates hit a peak your nitrites rose because they couldn't be converted as quickly.

    Nitrates before Nitrites...?

Sorry for the running sentences and paragraphs :). Trying to scarf down food while typing

    Nitrates before Nitrites...?

Nitrites are converted into nitrates by your benificial bacteria. So if your nitrates are incredibly high a 25-50% water change is needed. This will drop your nitrate level and help drop your nitrite level quicker because it will be easier for the bacteria to convert the nitrites to nitrates...

How to set up a CO2 system

I agree with Richard. Another option if you do not want pressurized CO2, you can use DIY CO2. The CO2 is made by you using yeast, water used baking soda I believe. You can use a 2 L bottle's to mix them in after you get the measurements. CO2 hose, and a cheap regulator you could buy off eBay.

How to set up a CO2 system

Adding a diffuser with oxygen would help your fish not your plants. Plants feed of co2 not oxygen. The need for co2 for your plants depends on a variety of things. Needing co2 mostly depends on your light output you are giving your plants everyday. As in how many lumens or watts per gallon are...

    My 125g planted discus tank

What substrate or substrates are you using? I'm setting up my new 125 this weekend and I will also be running pressurized co2 with plants I have in my 75.

    Cabinet around metal frame

I'm glad to see you accomplished that. I have a 125 dual tank metal stand that I will also be building a box for. I don't want to see all the piping going into my sump down below. Seeing your stand helps give me hope that doing mine will work. At first I was skeptical. Now I have hope

Foreground plants on a low light tank

I like dwarf hairgrass for a front plant. It's a good substrate cover plant and spreads fairly easily under the right conditions. Look into it

    Shrimp and snails help!!

You can also put your fish net down at the bottom and fill it with a sinking food pellet. Turn all lights off. Come back a few hours later and remove the net. It will be full of snails

Turtle cove (Turtle Habitat Build Thread)

That is an awesome job you did there. I wanted to do something similar in my finished basement but build my own plywood tank with plexi glass front. It was going to be a 500g though. After swing you setup is has me brainstorming mine again :)

    Box turtle eye crusts

I had 3 painted turtles that got this. You can either buy the drops they sell or do what I did. I removed my turtles from my tank. Changed my filter media. Added aquarium salt to help kill the infectious bacteria. Left lights off on tank as much as possible. I had my turtles in a heated tote...

    Best Snails For Sand?

I was more looking towards a snail to sift or burrow into the sand. In hopes of helping get rid of air pockets and help move sand underneath the surface. Thanks for the advice. Looking into them

    Best Snails For Sand?

I'm looking for opinions on the best snails to have for a planted tank with a sand substrate. I want snails to clean sand. But I don't want them to eat my live plants. Opinions?

    Iowans Come Fourth!

I built and finished my 75 gallon stand. I could do the same with my 125. I also have family in New Hampshire that can get the salt for a lot cheaper than here in Iowa. Most likely the crushed coral and sand substrates I could get a good deal on if they shipped it to me too. I might try it out...

    Iowans Come Fourth!

Really. I haven't had a reef tank yet. I'm setting up a new 125 right now with dual corner overflows. Debating on building a stand or buying a metal dual 125 stand from a guy in Iowa city. I'd like to make it a planted fresh water community tank, or put a mud puppy in it with feeder fish. Just...
