I need tips on moving my 29 gal. aquarium

Thanks for all your stories and recommendations-- do you think it would be o.k. to leave the gravel in the tank with maybe an inch of water? Or, would that cause too much stress on the tank seals? I've only had my aquarium for 6 months, so I don't need to completely clean it out like Ashley...

I need tips on moving my 29 gal. aquarium

I'm moving to a new apartment in a week and need some suggestions on the best way to move my fish. The drive will be about 30-45 minutes. Any and all advice is appreciated. If I need to separate species for the move (put in different containers, etc.) please tell me.

Once everything is set, this hobby gets a little boring...

Depending on what community fish you have, you could get a betta. My male betta is the most active and interesting fish in the tank. Despite their behavior in those small cups in a pet store, once they have a whole tank to swim around in they are pretty active and definitely have personality!

    gourami wont eat

I wouldn't have 2 males... see if they have a female, or just get another kind of fish. My gourami really never picked on the other species, so I wouldn't worry about getting 2 males so they pick on each other instead of other fish.

    Is this typical danio behaviour?

The largest and most long-finned of my danios constantly chases the other two around. Like you, I sometimes worry that the danio's too aggressive and will stress all the other fish out. But, I've had them for months now, and not had any problems... So, to second what everyone else has said...

    Thinking about adding some fish

I had one dwarf male gourami in my tank with guppies and they got along fine. Also, if you notice any problems with your guppies in general, I would recommend getting some females, as they generally do better socially with more females than males.

    Using an antibiotic properly

Thank you-- I probably should have looked at their website first...

    Using an antibiotic properly

From "Aquarium Products- APPlus" Anti-Bacteria Bacterial Infection Treatment (for ulcers, dropsy, and internal bacterial infection) Active ingredients: formalin, Benzalkonium Chloride

    Using an antibiotic properly

The antibiotic didn't come with instructions except for the amount per gallon (drop per gallon). Should I be doing daily pwc when I'm treating my whole tank with antibiotics? Should I be putting the antibiotics in everyday?

    Advice on Golden Algae Eater?

Brought our golden algae eater to the store tonight-- they wouldn't let me trade him, but they did take him back. I got a cute little otocinculus, and he's doing well so far. Since I've removed the gae, all the fish seem to be a little perkier.

    Recommended Water Changes?

Do you vaccuum every time you do a water change? How often do you all vaccuum?

    Recommended Water Changes?

I have been doing 10% once a week, 25% once a month. (I had read that more than 25% would be too shocking for fish, but people in the forums seem to do 50% quite frequently). What are your thoughts on this?

    Recommended Water Changes?

From what I've read in the forums, everyone seems to have different recommendations for pwc's. What is the standard?

    Gender of guppy fry

I have a mixture of female and male guppy fry from the same batch... so I don't think the ph makes a difference. I do know that water temperature will affect the amount of fry that a female gives birth to though.

    Advice on Golden Algae Eater?

Thanks for the advice. Before we went to bed, we quaratined him last night and I'm planning on taking him to the store after work today. I looked Chinese Algae Eaters up, and they are a different species than our Golden Algae Eater (but probably similar behavior). Bristlenose plecos look...

    Advice on Golden Algae Eater?

I've had my golden algae eater for about 2 months now, and he is getting more and more aggresive every day. I read that they are good for community tanks as juveniles, but should be in a semi-aggresive when they get older. He really is picking on my other fish now. I don't have another...

    Schooling tetras

To elaborate on what JChillin said, in the wild, fish school for two main reasons: predator protection and cooperative hunting. Also, there are different types of schools, depending on the species. In polarized schools, all the fish swim together in the same direction, same speed, etc. (my...

    betta is in the community

What I've noticed with bettas in a community tank, is that if they're one of the first fish put in, they are happier. Probably so they can establish their territory first. My betta never gets picked on and he's not very aggresive toward the other fish either.

    fancy guppies

I do the same thing as you, thesydmonster, let the survival of the fittest rule with the fry. Guppies have so many babies so frequently, that to separate them in their own tank would quickly lead to overpopulation!! Several of my fry have survived by swimming fast and hiding. (the smart ones)

My tank is at healthy levels, but my gourami is sick... help

Thought I'd give you an update... got home from work last night, the gourami was dead... but he was wedged under some rocks, so luckily none of the other fish appeared to notice or nip at him. I just can't believe how bad he got in one day! Thank you for your advice anyway, now I'll be...
