Hello Kryten. Thank you. I am glad I was able to help you with my thread.

And yes, live plants is the way to go. It's so fulfilling and it's beautiful to look at..:)

Okay, it's been awhile and many things have happened to this tank since the last time I have updated this tank. The second week of July, I was home setting my mother in law's home for two weeks and I occasionally check my tanks once in a week for that two weeks. Before I left, I put a 3 day food tablet in all my tanks but when I checked it after 3 days, my tank was a disaster, algae everywhere. So I took the tablet and change water right away. But since then, my fish started dying on me on this tank to the point that I only have 1 cardinal left. I transferred him to the other tank and transfer the betta from there in here. Here are some pictures:

Oh, hun, I'm so sorry for your loss. :( When you weren't at your MIL's, were you doing water changes? I wouldn't think a 2 week lapse in pwc's would hurt anything, but something definitely went wrong! What about your lights? Did you have them on a timer?

UGH! Just looking at those pics, (especially after watching your vid), makes me want to cry. :( And this was the first thread of yours that I checked out. I certainly hope this didn't happen to the others! Going to check the others out now...

***Lots and lots of hugs***

Hi, when I was at my mother in law's, although I was there for 2 weeks, I planned to go to check on my tanks once a week and do a PWC. But since I wasn't there everyday, I thought the 3 day feeder will help me with it. And when I came back and check for the first week, to do the PWC and checked the feeder it it really fed my fish, that's when I saw the nastiness it created. So I had to drive all the way from my MIL's to my house every other day to feed them from then on. My lights has always been on a timer so I didn't have an issue with it.

I know I have to start beautifying this baby again. :) (((((hugs)))))

Okay, I know it's been two months since I haven't update this baby.

Well, within the 2 months that I have not updated, I added the 5 leopard danios long fin in here with the delta tail betta that I have in here. But for some reason they became stressed for some reason and they got ick all over them. I tried saving them by turning off the lights and treated them with salt. They were healed for weeks after a week of treatment. But then they all died when I got home one day. So sad.

So then, I let my delta tail betta, Leonardo, alone for awhile. He was so happy having the whole 10G by himself. Until the Nor'easter storm. We lost our power and he didn't make it. It is so sad. I love all my bettas and the 3 of them didn't make it. This one, the one in my son's room, and the one in the kitchen.

For now, this tank is empty. I am debating if I will get another betta for this tank or just simply make it a community tank. I miss all my bettas though so maybe I will invest on them again. The thing is, I am afraid that when the winter will be so bad, and we will lose another power, that I will have another dead betta in my plate. The lose is so painful when they became part of your family. :-(

Anyway, this is my update on this tank...I will update my other ones now....

Okay, another long overdue update for this tank. After the 3-day feeder and the nor' easter dilemma, I finally have this tank back to normal again. I have a blue gourami in here which is very happy on his own. My plants are starting to come back bits and bits which I am happy. New buds of leaves coming each week so I am hoping it will look like how it used to be.

Here are some pics:

thanks roy. not as great as yours though but it's getting there back slowly.

I am thinking of finally doing a DIY CO2 with all my tank and I am hoping that this project will help all my plants to really bounce back faster. :)

If your gravel isn't keeping the dirt down, you may need to add a thin layer of sand. It will eventually seep down among the gravel, but may seal the dirt better ? I know most dirt tanks use a sand cap.

You can always see if there is a club near you. Clubs often have sales of equipment super cheap or a good way to network and find free stuff.

You can use that type of socket with CFLs as you probably know. CFLs will grow lots of plants in a 10g. My jungle is a testament to that. I can't show pics, only a vid link.

the dirt is holding up good underneath the gravel which I am thankful for. and yes, i do have CFLs in this scokets. i used to have a jungle in here before too but i had a vacation feeder mishap ruining all the plants and then the snowstorm and all. so i am just trying to build this tank again slowly back up.

your jungle is soooooo amazing. i would assume you have good high lighting and co2. it is just so amazing to see your scaping.
