Added a new filter, how long till its cycled?

I got myself a Fluval 406 for my 72 gallon tank to replace my old filter Right now its running along side my current cascade filter(the old filter). How long do I need to run the new filter before its established?

Prob 2 to 3 weeks. You could always transfer some media to speed up the process. That's also what I'm doing for a filter for my new tank

I agree, you should put some media from the other filter directly into the new one. Just make sure its behind the unseeded media, meaning the first thing the water current will come in contact with.

How exactly do you add media to the other one I'm changing my filter today and I want to speed it up

Literally just toss it in there. Depends on what kind of filter you have
